Over The Stable Door With Hunter Taylor
Equestrian sport is attracting a greater number of boy riders than ever before. Thriving junior competitor, Hunter Taylor, has enjoyed great success in the show ring at National level & more recently, in the dressage arena. Hunter shares his story below:

Hunter Taylor"I’ve been riding since I was 7 years old. I started off at a riding school, which was an option for school sport at Tudor House. Since I wasn’t interested in cricket or football, horse riding was my preferred option. Within 2 weeks of riding, I could canter on my own.  I then went to some gymkhanas, progressed to showing (hacking) and then decided I wanted to do dressage, which I’ve been doing now for 2 years.

I found showing was a great start to a riding career, as there were always shows to go to on weekends & we made lots of friends - it’s very social and yet competitive. I prefer dressage now because of the technical aspect of it. I enjoy getting the test paper at the end and seeing where I can improve.  Also, it is better for me, going into Year 12, as there are fewer time constraints - showing takes up more time, especially during school.

One of my greatest achievements in showing was winning the Grand Nationals Small Open Galloway Class on my mare, Willowcroft Coco Chanel. I also was Champion Boy Rider at Sydney Royal and Canberra Royal, and a Reserve Champion rider at the Grand Nationals as well.

In dressage, I won the Sydney CDI-J last year on my Warmblood mare, Maybelle Matilda. I’ve also had some great success on her in medium tests this year, even beating Brett Parbury on one occasion, which was a thrill, since he’s an Olympian!

In the past 4 years, I have always ridden in Peter Williams products. The Boys Show Full Seat Jodhpurs have been a favourite of mine. The pleated front make them great for boys and men. I had these in Beige for my show hunter classes.  For dressage, I wear Peter's Junior Men's Breeches in White with tall boots. These breeches are very comfortable and wash well. Normally I like to get out of my jodhpurs straight after my test. However, I love wearing these so much that I don't even change out of them if I have to collect papers or volunteer. They’re a bit more like pants.

I also wear a Peter Williams white shirt, which has a nice check pattern. I am a proud sponsored rider and am thankful to Peter Williams for their support."

Peter Williams Boys' Show Full Seat Jodhpurs are available in Beige, White & Navy. Sizes range from C10 - C16.
